On Sunday November 25 at 1:32 am the Brewster Fire Department was dispatched on an automatic mutual aid line box to the Town of Harwich to assist at a fire scene, located on Route 28. Upon arrival of the Harwich Fire Department units reported the two story wood frame 200’ x 40’ structure to be well involved in fire. Due to this heavy volume of fire, potential for collapse, and the building being vacant for approximately four years a decision to initiate an exterior attack on the fire using large hand lines, aerial ladders, and tower ladders was made by the Harwich Fire Chief. Brewster units responding included Car 231 (Chief Moran), Car 232 (Deputy Harrison), Ladder 237, Engine 239, and Ambulance 244. All Brewster units returned to service at approximately 6:30 a.m. The fire has been deemed suspicious by the State Fire Marshal and continues to be investigated by his office.
