Brewster Firefighters Respond to Chimney Fire
On Monday November 1 at 3:45 p.m. Brewster firefighters responded to a Tubman Road address for a reported chimney fire with extension to the structure. On arrival Deputy Chief Kevin Varley reported smoke from the chimney and the surrounding roof area. Squad 241 arrived on scene and stretched a precautionary 1¾ attack line to the front door. Ladder 237 arrived on scene and placed ground and roof ladders on the dwelling to reach the chimney. Firefighters removed the wood burning in the fireplace and attempted to clear out the chimney and any obstructions using a chimney scrubber device. With fire still burning in the flue firefighters deployed a chimney snuffer to extinguish the fire. All floors of the dwelling and attic were checked for fire extension with thermal imaging cameras. No extension was found. The Orleans, Harwich, and Dennis Fire Departments provided automatic aid assistance at the incident. No injuries were reported.
Brewster Fire would like to remind our residents to have their chimney checked to ensure it is clean and in proper working order by a competent chimney cleaning company on an annual basis.
