Brewster Firefighters Conduct Hands-on Group Training

On Wednesday December 14 members of Group 3 conducted a hands-on engine company and search and rescue training event in the old water department building slated for demolition as part of the upcoming fire department construction project.

Deputy Chief Kevin Varley and Captain Chris Flavell supervised the drill which included hoseline management and search and rescue operations under simulated smoke conditions designed to replicate the blinding environment firefighters operate in during interior fire suppression operations.

Deploying and managing fire attack hoselines and conducting effective search operations are two of the more critical tasks firefighters must conduct during every structure fire. Maintaining a high level of competency in these areas through hands-on training events such as this is a principal component of ensuring our department is readily prepared to safely and effectively operate at structure fires and other fire related incidents.
