Brewster Firefighters Respond to Head-On Crash in Harwich

On Saturday June 18 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Heavy Rescue 241 and Ambulance 244 responded on a line box response to Route 6 in the area of Exit 11 to assist the Harwich Fire Department at a two vehicle crash was reported on. The head-on impact caused one vehicle to burst into flames. Initial attempts by first-arriving Harwich Police and State Police to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers were unsuccessful due to the severity of the fire which was eventually extinguished by Harwich firefighters on their arrival. All occupants of the two vehicles had self-extricated prior to arrival of fire department units. They were evaluated and treated by Harwich and Brewster medics and transported to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
