Brewster Firefighters Attend Firefighter Safety and Survival Training

On Saturday April 9, 2016 the Barnstable County Fire Chiefs Association hosted a one-day fire suppression strategy and tactics seminar titled “Firefighter Safety and Survival” at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster. The instructor for this dynamic training program was Loveland-Symmes (OH) Fire Department Deputy Chief Bill Goldfeder who is a nationally recognized speaker and author known for his dynamic presentations involving firefighter safety.

During the program which attracted approximately 100 firefighters from across Cape Cod and the region including 12 Brewster firefighters Deputy Chief Goldfeder used his many years of fireground experience and familiarity with firefighter fatality investigations to highlight a variety of systems, techniques, and tactics that firefighters could use to improve their level of safety at emergency incidents. Using real life video and audio as the foundation of his presentation Chief Goldfeder discussed subjects such as fireground decision making, size-up, incident command, safe driving, accountability, risk benefit, customer service, and the deployment of effective strategy and tactics at structure fires.
