Brewster Fire Department Responds to Motor Vehicle Collision with Rollover

At 2:48 p.m. on Saturday January 9, the Brewster Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision with rollover at the intersection of Millstone Road and Henry Street. Upon arrival, Ambulance 244 and Heavy Rescue 241 reported a vehicle had sheared a utility pole in half and was rolled over on its side with one occupant still inside the vehicle. Live arcing power lines were also down across the road close to the vehicle. Despite the danger posed by the power lines firefighters made immediate entry into the vehicle and performed a rapid removal of the victim who was then moved to the ambulance for assessment, treatment, and transport to Cape Cod Hospital. The Orleans Fire Department was requested to the scene by command to assess and transport the second occupant of the vehicle who had self extricated themselves with the assistance of a bystander prior to the arrival of fire department units.

Eversource was requested on a priority basis due to the live arcing wires in the roadway and upon arrival cut power to the area and made the accident scene safe. Approximately 300 customers lost power for several hours while crews replaced the utility pole and wires. The accident remains under the investigation by the Brewster Police Dept.
