Brewster Fire & Rescue Department Honors Retired Town Administrator Charles Sumner

On Friday December 11, 2015 in front of over 200 attendees the Brewster Fire Department named former Town Administrator Charles Sumner an Honorary Fire Chief at his retirement party.

Being named an Honorary Chief in the fire service should not be taken lightly. It is perhaps the highest honor that an organization can bestow on a non-member and is offered only to those individuals who have earned the respect and admiration of department members through dedicated, consistent, and enduring friendship and support of an organization and the fire service in general.

Mr. Sumner recently retired after serving as the Town Administrator for 30 years. His work in supervising the Towns growth from a rural bedroom community into a vibrant, financially stable, and desirable community along with his devotion to volunteering his personal time to help those in need through various charitable organizations is well-known throughout Barnstable County. Through these efforts and his dedication to the Town of Brewster he has garnered a high level of respect from his peers in government service across Cape Cod and from the residents of our great community.

The members of our department would like to thank Mr. Sumner for his consistent support; especially for the recent assistance he provided our organization and the community in obtaining approval for the construction of a new fire headquarters. Through these and other efforts he has earned our respect and is now considered part of our family here in the Brewster Fire & Rescue Department. We wish him many years of a happy and healthy retirement!
