Brewster Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire in Harwich

On Friday December 11, 2015 the Brewster Fire Department responded to 19 Doane Road in the Town of Harwich on a working fire assignment. On arrival, Harwich Fire Department units found heavy fire on the interior 1st floor and basement of the 2.5 story wood frame private dwelling rapidly extending to the exterior of the structure. Harwich units immediately advanced hoselines into the residence for extinguishment but were forced out of the building by the heavy fire conditions.

An exterior defensive operation was then established. Brewster Ladder 237 under the command of Captain Jeff Sturtevant and Ambulance 242 responded directly to the scene along with Car 231 (Chief Moran). The Brewster crew assisted with fire suppression operations throughout the incident while the ambulance provided rehabilitation and EMS services. The fire was placed under control by command in approximately 45 minutes however; final extinguishment took several hours due to the collapse of the first floor and a portion of the roof.

The Dennis, Chatham, and Yarmouth Fire Departments responded directly to the scene with engine companies and Orleans, Eastham, and Brewster Engine 239 covered Harwich Headquarters and Station 2.  All Brewster units returned to service at approximately 2:30 a.m.
