Brewster Firefighters Conduct Hands-On Training

On Wednesday May 27 Brewster firefighters conducted a hands-on training session at a home scheduled for demolition at 300 Foster Road. The exercise consisted of several components including a review of building construction techniques, initial size-up skills, aerial and ground ladder use, forcible entry, roof ventilation, and search and rescue scenarios during which firefighters were challenged with locating several training mannequins within the structure while conducting primary and secondary searches under heavy smoke conditions.

The opportunity to train our firefighters in these hands-on based training scenarios using the type of dwellings we typically respond to is a critically important element of our goal of providing real-world training opportunities designed to improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of our members.

Our organization would like to thank the Tully Family and the staff at Polhemus Savery DaSilva Architects for providing us the opportunity to conduct this outstanding training event.
