On Thursday May 14 at approximately 1:10 p.m. Heavy Rescue 241 and Car 231 (Chief Moran) were special called to 7 Nells Way in Orleans to provide shoring equipment at a reported collapse of an overhang onto a vehicle with a victim trapped. On arrival Orleans fire units found that the involved vehicle had crashed through the supports of an overhang at the Orleans Car Wash causing a major collapse.
Upon further investigation it was found that the driver had self-extricated from the vehicle prior to their arrival and did not require any medical intervention. The crew from Heavy Rescue was placed in staging until a vehicle removal plan was developed. After speaking to a local towing company to confirm their ability to remove the vehicle the Orleans incident commander (Chief Pike) made the decision to release Heavy Rescue 241 and Car 231. Both units returned to service at approximately 1:40 p.m.
