Brewster Fire Department Responds to Chimney Fire

On Saturday February 28 at 1:56 a.m. the Brewster Fire Department responded to 307 Red Fawn Road on a reported chimney fire. On arrival Engine 239 under the command of Captain Christopher Flavell reported an active chimney fire with flames visible from the chimney flue of a 2 1/2/ story wood frame private residential dwelling. It was also reported that all occupants had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of fire department units.

On arrival Ladder 237 manned by Group 3 firefighters placed the aerial ladder to the roof and a 1 ¾ hose line with the chimney snuffer attachment was stretched to the roof for extinguishment. While firefighters worked to extinguish the fire in the chimney flue additional staff immediately entered the home to extinguish the fire in the wood burning stove and check for potential fire extension in other areas of the residence with thermal imaging cameras. With the fire extinguished and the check for extension proving negative units ventilated the structure and secured the wood burning stove. Command was terminated and all fire department units returned to service at 3:06 a.m.
