Brewster Fire Department Responds to Head on Collision

On Tuesday February 24 at approximately 2:25 p.m. the Brewster Fire Department responded to a reported head on motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Harwich Road (Rt.124) and Captain Perry Road. Brewster Car 231 (Chief Moran) and Ambulance (242) responded on the initial request and due to multiple ongoing incidents within Brewster the Dennis Fire Department and the Harwich Fire Department were also requested for additional apparatus and personnel. On arrival Chief Moran reported a two car head on motor vehicle collision involving a Brewster Police cruiser and a Saturn sedan. A size-up of the scene and assessment of the patients revealed both would require transportation to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. It was also found that the occupant of the sedan was entrapped in the vehicle and his removal would require the use of the “jaws of life” to extricate him from the wreckage.

This operation required use of several extrication tools and was successfully conducted by members of the Brewster, Dennis, and Harwich Fire Departments. Once enough removal area was secured the patient was packaged and transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Brewster ambulance. The Police Officer was also transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Harwich ambulance. After securing the vehicles Chief Moran transferred command of the scene to the Brewster Police Department for further investigation and all Brewster Fire Department and mutual aid units were released.
