At the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday January 5, 2014 the Brewster Fire Department conducted a swearing in and promotion ceremony. During the session Thomas Osborn was sworn in as the departments newest Firefighter/Paramedic and Christopher Flavell was promoted to the position of Captain/Paramedic. These opening were created as a result of the retirement of Captain Don LaBonte in December after a twenty-eight year career of serving the residents of our community.
Firefighter/Paramedic Osborn comes to Brewster from Pembroke, New Hampshire. He was one of several excellent candidates who applied for the open position and after completing a rigorous interview, background, medical, and physical abilities testing process was chosen for the position. He has Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from St. Josephs College of New Hampshire, is a certified Massachusetts Paramedic and has completed his Pro-Board Firefighter I/II certification at the New Hampshire State Fire Academy. Thomas also served as a Firefighter in the Standish Maine Fire Department while attending college.
Captain/Paramedic Flavell is a 15 year veteran of the Brewster Fire Department. He was one of several career firefighters who were involved in the recent Captains promotional process which included a written exam, a practical assessment center conducted by a fire service promotional testing company, and a resume review. Prior to becoming a Brewster Firefighter Chris served over twenty years in the Coast Guard reaching the rank of Station Chief where he was responsible for managing various Coast Guard stations including the Provincetown Station which was his last assignment.
Our organization is confident these two individuals will provide professional emergency medical and fire suppression services to our residents and their fellow colleagues for many years to come. Congratulations and good luck in your new positions!
