Brewster Firefighters Busy During Severe Storms

During the early morning hours of September 1, 2013 a cell of severe thunder and lightning storms moved across Cape Cod.  As a result, the Brewster Fire Department was dispatched to a number of storm related calls beginning at 4:11 a.m. with a transformer fire on Moss Lane and Millstone Road, one home at 148 Griffiths Pond Road and another home at 86 Beach Rose Lane that suffered damage from a lightning strike that occurred within close proximity to the structure. At the Griffiths Pond Road incident Brewster firefighters had to ladder the residence to inspect the area where the lightning hit to eliminate the possibility of fire extension into the home.  All Brewster units were placed back in service from these responses at approximately 7:00 a.m. In addition to these incidents another home located at 86 Beach Rose Lane was found to have suffered a direct lightning strike after firefighters responded to the address several hours later.
