Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team Receives Homeland Security Grant

The Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team recently received a $42,000 Commonwealth of Massachusetts Homeland Security Grant to fund the purchase of personal protective equipment for the unit’s fifty technical rescue technicians.   Included in this mandatory safety equipment that team members will wear during responses and training events are helmets, boots, personal lights, belts, pants, and shirts. Since forming the regional team in 2012 the Barnstable County Fire Chiefs Association has been awarded over $600,000 in Homeland Security funding to support the operations, purchase equipment, and train the members of this elite group of firefighters in technical and specialized rescue response skills that include trench rescue, structural collapse, confined space rescue, and rope rescue techniques. This most recent grant award is another example of the proactive efforts of the Chiefs Association to develop and support specialized teams and response capabilities throughout Barnstable County in an economical and cost efficient manner.  Members of the Brewster Fire Department assigned to the technical rescue team including the dive section of the unit are; Captain/Paramedic Anthony Dalmau, Captain/Paramedic Jeff Sturtevant, FF/EMT Kirk Riker, FF/Paramedic Chad Foakes, and FF/EMT Dan Kimball.
