Brewster Fire Department Responds to Mass Casualty Incident in Eastham

On Tuesday August 6 at 6:52 p.m. the Brewster Fire Department dispatched two mutual aid ambulances (A244, A243) to a Level I Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) on Route 6 in Eastham in front of the Sheraton Four Points Hotel. The incident was caused by a four vehicle crash that resulted in injuries to nine persons (two life-threatening) who all required medical treatment and transportation to Cape Cod Hospital.

The Eastham Incident Commander quickly recognized the number of injuries at the scene required a large commitment of ambulances and fire department personnel and as is typical for an incident of this type he declared a Level I MCI. Upon this declaration Barnstable County Dispatch immediately initiated the dispatch of mutual aid resources from the Towns of Wellfleet, Orleans, Chatham, Brewster, and Harwich to the scene.  Additional ambulances from other Towns were also moved into the region to provide coverage for other medical calls. The Brewster Fire Department ambulances treated and transported two victims from the incident to Cape Cod Hospital and returned to service at approximately 8:53 p.m.
