On Sunday August 4, 2013 the Brewster Fire Department proudly supported the bike riders participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge by magnificently displaying an oversized American Flag from the department’s aerial ladder in front of Fire Headquarters during the popular biking race. The PMC Challenge is an athletic event started in 1980 to raise money for cancer research. The race has a number of routes for bikers to ride including the most popular which is a two-day event starting in Wellsley and ending in Provincetown which runs through 46 Massachusetts communities. Today, the 5,500 participants in the benefit race raise more money than any other single charity athletic event in the United States. Last year (2012) the group contributed 37 million dollars to the Dan-Farber Cancer Center and the Jimmy Fund. The goal for 2013 is set at 38 million.
