The Brewster Fire Department recently received delivery of three Lucas automatic CPR devices. These battery operated units are considered state-of-the art emergency medical equipment designed to provide efficient, uniform, and consistent chest compressions during the delivery of CPR. In addition to providing reliable compressions prior to and during patient transport the units also provide our EMS personnel with the ability to concentrate on and complete other critical life-saving tasks during treatment. They are particularly useful during incidents involving limited staffing and during patient transportation when personnel normally stand over the patient performing CPR in the moving ambulance It is our expectation that eliminating this activity in a moving vehicle will improve the safety of our personnel and reduce the potential for injuries.
Our organization is extremely thankful to our residents for supporting the purchase of these units during our FY 2014 budget process. We firmly believe this modern EMS technology will significantly enhance our ability to provide first-rate, professional emergency medical services to the community while enhancing the safety of our personnel.
