9/11 Memorial Ceremony

On Sunday September 11, 2011 the Brewster Fire Department hosted a memorial service to acknowledge the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country that occurred on September 11, 2001 and to dedicate a public memorial that honors the emergency service personnel and other courageous individuals who lost their lives during these tragic events. Over 500 Brewster residents, visitors to our community, and regional emergency service representatives attended the memorial dedication.  A number of who had significant ties to the terrorist events through personal experience or friends and relatives that were present during the attacks. In addition to the ceremony the Brewster Band provided music during the morning, a montage of photos from the World Trade Center was displayed, and refreshments were served.

The memorial, which is permanently located in front of fire headquarters, is comprised of an original piece of structural steel from the World Trade Center and a bronze plaque depicting the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Flight 93. Both are skillfully mounted on a base of grey and black granite stonework. To complete this striking monument the Brewster Fire Department entrusted the design work to Josh Walther of Walther Fabrications and Thomas Blute of H.T. Crosby & Sons Monuments. Their stunning final design which was funded by the Brewster Fire & Rescue Association is a testament to their dedication to their profession, our community, and their individual personal commitment to providing a lasting memorial to the events that occurred on 9/11.

Our organization is extremely grateful to have the opportunity to memorialize the events of 9/11 with a permanent public monument that will stand as a reminder to future generations of the sacrifices of the emergency service workers and citizens who lost their lives on that tragic day. Please feel free to stop by Fire Headquarters to observe the monument, pause for reflection, and visit our facility.
